The dreaded images of celery, lettuce and other green leafed vegetables come to the mind immediately when you think of raw food diet. This is just mind conditioning. Raw food diet is most healthy for your body and there's plenty of it made available by nature.
First of all let's be clear on what you should be eating on a raw food diet, Fruits or Vegetables?
Contrary to the popular myth, celery and lettuce may not be as healthy for the human body as they are made out to be. Ask yourself this question, how energetic would you feel if you ate celery, lettuce and other green vegetables for a couple of day? Try it and you will find that there is a lot of fatigue and suffering when you eat only vegetables.
The best food for humans is Fruit. Greeks, the mighty Spartan warriors, were known to worship Apollo, which means apple. There is scientific evidence that our primitive ancestors where complete fruit eaters. Our body structure is completely suited for eating fruits, we have flat teeth to mask them, fingers to pluck them, and feet to climb trees. Nature wanted us to eat fruits; just look at our ancestors the apes, what do think is their staple food?
It is advisable to go on raw food diet at least once a week. It also the body to cleanse itself. Detoxification ensure that you keep away from obesity and rid your body of disease causing toxins. The reason for the surge in cancer attacks is due to the fact that people rarely allow for body cleansings by fasting or eating raw food diet.
You can completely avoid eating vegetables and just stick to fruits when on a raw food diet. Whatever minerals, enzymes, proteins and calories that you need will be obtained from fruits, you don't need to look beyond them.
What would you like to eat, a huge carrot or a luscious piece of melon? The answer is evident. Humans have always loved fruits, vegetables were forced into their diet as was non-vegetarian food. If you want to figure out what is good for you, just eat it raw and see if you like the taste.
Start your morning with a pineapple followed by papaya or half a melon. This should do for most, but if you are still hungry you can have a banana.
Try to eat fruits whenever you feel hungry through out the day, there are no hard and fast rules about eating only during lunch hour or dinner hour. Fruits are eaten when you feel hungry, that's the natural way of eating.
When you feel thirsty, which would be rare when on a fruit diet, try eating a melon instead of drinking water. If you must quench your thirst with water, go ahead. Try eating fruits which are rich in water content like melons, pineapple, grapes, papaya and pears especially for breakfast and lunch. This will keep you feel fresh and hydrated throughout the day.
At night you can eat plenty of bananas, apple and mangoes (if available). Who doesn't relish creamy ripe bananas?
Many people take to drinking tall juices made from fresh fruits and vegetables, while they are on a raw food diet. This would be a mistake. The best way to have fruits is to eat it in whole state. A juicer would fragment the fruits and make a paste out of it, the usual tendency is to drink it in a few gulps. The stomach is quite shocked at the huge influx of glucose in one shot, this might result in a blood sugar hike.
Eating fruits makes sure that you give the food slowly to your stomach. The digestion would take 20 minutes or so and the energy is released a slower pace without shocking your system.
If you must drink fruit juice, make sure its home made and there is no sugar in it. Never mix fruits while making a juice. In fact its better not to eat a fruit salad with a huge mix of fruits, keep to one or two fruit types for one sitting.
