How Do You Maintain A Healthy Diet?

Eating a healthy diet is like breathing fresh air.

Whenever you deprive yourself of a healthy diet you will feel the pinch of it either physically or mentally. Continuous abuse of the body caused by eating bad food would lead to several disorders like heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.

A healthy diet is not a choice but a necessity if you want good health. If you respect your body and health, there is no better reason for you to maintain a healthy diet.

What constitutes a healthy diet?

Always remember the below thumb rule of healthy diet

"Anything you cannot eat in its raw state cannot be really good for you"

Apply this thumb rule to all the food that you are eating everyday and you will know how healthy you are eating.

Your body is a natural living entity and it finds everything unnatural toxic. Anything which is processed or cooked does not fit into the above thumb rule and is obviously not the best food for you.

Lets look at examples of foods which can be eaten raw and made a meal of

1. Raw fruits

2. Raw vegetables (as a salad)

3. Nuts & seeds (almonds, walnuts, pecans, brazils and cashews)

Can you think of anything else which can be eaten raw without causing you displeasure?

The common foods which we eat are given below and compared with the thumb rule of healthy diet

1. Meat - Usually cannot be eaten raw by most people. It contains bacteria and viruses which can be fatal when consumed raw. Cooking is absolutely essential as far as any non-vegetarian food is concerned. It fails the healthy diet thumb rule.

2. Pastas, rice and wheat - Cannot be eaten raw for obvious reasons.

3. Legumes & Pulses - Cannot be eaten in the raw state

4. Table salt & spices - Just try eating it raw (warning - you might puke)

5. Herbs (garlic, ginger & mint) - Most herbs are stimulating and enervating to your nerves. It is difficult to eat these herbs raw without discomfort.

6. Eggs - Some people drink it raw but that's just an acquired habit. Everyone knows that spilt egg stinks real bad.

It's okay to eat unhealthy as long as you don't overdo it

Most people can't do away with cooked food or other traditional foods like meat and pasta. It's okay to eat them, they do lead to toxicity but the body can manage it as long as you don't overdo it.

Make sure you eat fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Fruits should only be eaten on empty stomach or they can get fermented along with cooked food.

Staying healthy is not a option anymore. With the rising pollution and sedentary way of living, it is of utmost importance to reduce the burden on your body.
