Fruit Diet - Tips to Bear in Mind

Research in the field of fruit diet has shown that fruits require a minimum of 15 minutes and maximum of 45 minutes to get digested when chewed properly. Vegetables, eaten raw, require close to 2 hours to get digested especially when they are rich in starch. Cooked vegetables also take close to 2 hours to get digested.

Looking at the digestion time difference between fruits and vegetables, it makes sense that we eat fruits on empty stomach so that they get digested fast and be moved to the intestines.

A few tips to remember while eating a fruit and vegetable diet are

1. Avoid eating fruit skin as it require more time to digest and may be polluted by the use insecticides in the orchards

2. Take fruits on empty stomach only. If you are eating a complete fruit diet, you can eat fruits anytime you want.

3. If have eaten vegetables, wait for 2 hours before you take fruits

4. If you have eaten fruits, wait for at least 30 minutes before you eat vegetables

5. Avoid the use of any spices or condiments in your diet. Using lemon juice with your vegetable salad is okay though.

6. It is much better to eat fruits in their whole state instead of drinking fruit juice. If you must drink juice make sure you take small sips and chew it a bit before swallowing.

7. If it is difficult to eat vegetables raw, you can steam them a bit.

8. Try eating fruits in spread intervals instead of stuffing yourself in one sitting. When you eat fruits you will get hungry in intervals of 2 hours or so.

Make sure you mix and match sweet fruits with non-sweet fruits or citrus fruits to keeping the interest of taste buds in mind. A fruit and vegetable diet plan would require some discipline initially if you are used to eating spicy food all your life.
