How Much Water Should You Drink A Day?

It is strange that most of us have taken it for granted that humans were supposed to drink water. This habit has been handed down to us from ages of practice and we don't once question it. Are human really drinking species?

There are animals out there that drink water and then there are some who live without water. Which category would human being belong to? The obvious answer seems to be that we belong to the category of animals that drink water for survival. But how true is it?

Water is essential for survival. Human body is made up of 70-75% percent water and hence its need in the body cannot be questioned. What is questionable though it the source through which we fulfill this requirement.

What are the practical sources of water?

1. Drinking water

2. Eating food which is rich in water content

Which one of the above is more healthy or natural to human?

Drinking Water Is Not Natural But An Acquired Practice By Human Beings

It is difficult to displace age old myths and habits. You are obviously feeling incredulous at the very idea of thinking that drinking water is not natural to us human. It's only normal to feel shocked or be steadfast in disbelief when habits you have never questioned are suddenly put under the microscope.

You just have to look at a human physiology or anatomy to know the truth of the matter. Are humans suited anatomically to drink water from sources like rivers and lakes?

How did the most primitive of men drink water where there were no bottles and glasses to drink from?

Humans always stand above the ground and they have a flat mouth. It is painful to say the least, to drink water from a natural source like river, lake, pond or a spring. His nose is next to the month, it would be natural to choke while drinking water by dipping the head into a water source.

The primitive men, our ancestors, had no utensils or glasses to fill water with? How did they quench their thirst then?

Primitive men satisfied their requirements of water purely through the food they ate which was primarily fruits. Nature never intended for humans to drink water, with time human acquired the habit of drinking water.

Several Animals and Birds Don't Drink Water

Human are not the only animals around who are naturally equipped to drink water. There are several animals in the wild who go several days or months without drinking water. There has been very little research in this area of animal behavior, but it evident that they stick close a water source more for the need of vegetation than to drink water.

Most animals who are domesticated have been perverted by human behavior. So it does not stand to reason that a domesticated animal craves water. There are several dogs who are reared as pets who cannot go two hours without a few sips of cold water. This is just a perversion rather than a natural condition.

Animals in the wild such as Owl, Ilama, rabbits, antelopes, hyenas who have rarely been seen drinking water on regular basis. They might lap water once in a month or a year. Of course there are several animals in the wild who do drink water daily.

So Should Humans Avoid Drinking Water

There is no such need of course, in fact it might be unavoidable to drink water. The only to quench thirst borne through heavy work outs or physical labor is to drink water. It would be hardly advisable to state that water should only be obtained through food especially if you are living in hot climatic conditions like a desert.

What is being suggested is that the purest and the most natural source of water is raw fruits which is the most healthy diet for humans. If you eat a diet rich in fruits it would be impossible to feel thirsty unless you indulge in hard physical labor. The water from fruits is easily absorbed by the body and it replenishes the need for hydration in the most natural way.
